Hello there!

Here is a version of the typical bread sticks from the Valencia region that can be easily prepared and enjoyed as an afternoon snack.

This recipe is fun to make because you have to mould the bread sticks like plasticine. :)

Ingredients

Method

  1. Peel the clove of garlic and cook in olive oil over a low heat until very soft.
    Drain and crush with a fork.

  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the fresh yeast in warm water.

  3. In a large bowl, place the flour, salt, sugar, oil and add the water with the yeast.

  4. Mix well and knead into a ball.
    Make a small well in the ball and pour in the sunflower seeds. Knead the dough into a ball again.

  5. Cover the ball with a tea towel and leave it close to a warm surface for 20 minutes to rise.
    Split into four pieces and roll out with a rolling pin.

  6. Cut into 10 cm by 3 cm strips making them slightly rectangular in shape, and place on greaseproof paper on a baking tray.

  7. Cook at 200 ºC (400 ºF) for around 15 minutes, or until golden and crunchy.

  8. FINISHING THE DISH:

    Place the garlic and sunflower seed bread sticks on a plate and sprinkle with salt.

TIPS FROM THE CHEF:

- The bread sticks can be stored in a hermetically sealed container in a cool, dry place and they will last for several days.
- These bread sticks can be used as a snack inside and out of the home, to ward of hunger between meals.
- Exchange the sunflower seeds for hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, chocolate chips...
